Have you seen the Member Chatter section of our website?  It's where current members of the RSV can discuss a variety of topics from War of 1812 history and clothing pattern reviews to finding a ride to the next event.  You can even subscribe to particular topics (or the entire forum, if you like!) to get e-mail notifications when another post has been made!

We've reorganized the pages somewhat to help make this part of the website easier to navigate as we transition away from our other forum.  (In other words, if you're looking for a topic that you posted earlier, it's probably just on another page.)  Keeping all forum activity here on the website will reduce the amount of duplication and administration for our volunteers as well as reduce the number of passwords our members need to remember. ;)

We encourage you to save any posts on the old forum that you would like to save prior to the end of the year.  And don't forget to post in the Member Chatter section of our website!  We'd love to get to know you between events, too!

If you're interested in Regency bling, don't miss our upcoming event, Jewelry in the Early 19th Century, on October 18.  This event, hosted in conjunction with the Southeastern Virginia Region chapter of JASNA, will feature Kimberly Walters, proprietress of RSV Member-Friendly Merchant K. Walters at the Sign of the Gray Horse, who will discuss Regency jewelry trends.  She will also have pieces of her reproduction period jewelry available for sale and is generously offering a discount of 15% off any purchase of $30 or more to those who attend.  In addition, she will be giving away a necklace inspired by an 1814 fashion plate to one lucky attendee.  You must be present to get the discount or win the necklace--and you certainly must be there to get some great information on accessorizing in the early 19th century!  Period attire is welcome but not required.

Get more information on this event and register to let us know to expect you by visiting the Jewelry in the Early 19th Century event listing.

If you've already registered for the Victory Ball, don't forget that your ticket includes a practice session the day of the event.  You'll have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the dances that will be danced at the ball in the evening so that they are fresh in your mind when you take to the floor that night.

The walk through will be held in the Country Club of Petersburg's ballroom (the same location as the ball itself) on October 24 from 12:30pm - 2:30pm.  No partner is required for the practice session or the ball but a passing familiarity with the figures of English Country Dancing is recommended before you attend.  (Check out our links page for information on ECD that may be helpful!)

Haven't purchased your ticket yet?  Don't miss the fun!  Tickets are only available through October 19!  Click here to register for the ball.  (And don't forget that you can't access member pricing without logging in first!)

If you're planning on taking advantage of the room black that was reserved at the Petersburg Country Inn and Suites for the Victory Ball, please be aware that that block will only be available until October 5 (which is only about a week and a half away)!

The Country Inn and Suites is located at 130 Wagner Rd. in Petersburg, a mere 2.5 miles away from our ball venue.  Room rates are $85 (+tax)/night (suites may be available at a room rate of $105+tax/night).   A hot breakfast is included in the price of the room and free WIFI is available as well.  Please see their website for additional amenities.  To claim a room from the block, you must call the hotel at 804-861-4355 and let them know that you are booking with the VICTORY BALL block.  After the October 5 release date, rates cannot be guaranteed and rooms will be subject to availability.

Haven't purchased your Victory Ball ticket yet?  Click here to get yours now! (RSV members, don't forget to log in to access your member-discounted ticket!  Non-members, join the RSV and get those same discounts.  Membership is more affordable than you might think!)  Tickets for the Victory Ball will be available until Monday, October 19.  (Sorry, tickets will not be available at the door.)

We are absolutely thrilled to announce a partnership with Dames a la Mode!  Owner Taylor Shelby has been a great supporter of the RSV from the very start--attending our first costumed event at Bacon's Castle in 2012 and co-leading a workshop on hair and headwear for us--and now she is very generously offering a way for her customers to support the RSV, too!  Throughout the month of September, all purchases made at the Dames a la Mode Etsy shop using the coupon code RSV10 will be given a 10% discount AND 5% of the order's total will be donated to the RSV.  This offer is available to both RSV members and friends, so be sure to share the code with all of your Regency-jewelry-loving pals whether they're RSV members or not!  There is no minimum or maximum purchase and the promotion applies to all the wonderful items (including custom!) in her shop, but the sale is limited to the month of September.

To learn more about the promotion, check out the Dames a la Mode blog

We're very excited to launch our new website!  This site will be especially beneficial for our members.  As a member, you'll be able to log in (Login button is at the upper left hand corner!) and view and edit your membership profile, create photo albums, manage your account with the RSV, renew your membership, view the RSV membership directory, and access member discounts for events.  The site also has a "Members Only" side that is only accessible to members when they log in.

Since it is new, there may be some missing information and we hope that you will "pardon our dust" as we continue to add and improve it.  Feel free to e-mail us at info@varegency.org if you have any suggestions for the site.

We hope that you enjoy the RSV's new home on the web!

Your ball planning committee recently met to cement plans for our October event commemorating the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and we are excited!

Our venue, the Country Club of Petersburg, is not only beautiful but in a far more central location than our ball last year which we hope will make it easier for more of our members and friends to attend.  There will be live music again this year, featuring Mara Shea and Dean Herington, the musicians who played so well for us at our previous ball and we will have a full slate of dances at the center of the evening.  This year, we'll also be adding a "gaming room" so that any gentlemen and ladies interested in trying their hands at cards during lulls in the dancing will be able to do so.  The food promises to be incredible, too!

Tickets will go on sale soon and we anticipate that they will go fast, so don't miss your chance to participate in what promises to be a fantastic event!
