Today is the last day that you can ensure that you will be able to have a space on next year's excursion to a full roster of Regency era sites!  While the travel agency has agreed to attempt to include anyone who comes along at a later date, it will be on a space-available basis and, after May 31, they can make no guarantees that folks can be accommodated.  So don't miss out and get those deposits in so you can enjoy touring Bath, Jane Austen's House, the Historic Portsmouth Dockyards, Brighton's Royal Pavilion, and more with others who enjoy the early 19th century as much as you do!  To get the full line-up of highlights and to find the link to the travel agency so that you can make your deposit, be sure to visit our 2019 Group Trip to the UK site page!

The deadline to save your place to join us on our 2019 trip to the UK is looming!  The initial deposit of £250/person is due to the travel agency by May 31 to guarantee your spot with the the group.  (If you miss the deadline, you may still be able to join us, however, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to do so after the May 31 date.)  We'll be hitting many Regency era highlights--Bath and its museums, Jane Austen's house, HMS Victory, and the Brighton Royal Pavilion, just to name a few!  Be sure to visit our UK Group Trip page to get a more detailed itinerary, additional information, and the link to put down your deposit and join us!

As many of our regular attendees to the Regency Dance Practice scheduled for this Friday, May 18, will be attending the 1818 Wedding at Caledon State Park the following morning, we have decided to cancel this week's Regency dance practice.

Please join us for our next regularly scheduled dance practice on Friday, June 1.  Click here to register for the June 1 practice now!

We've been excited about the turnout that we've had for our dance practices...so we've extended dance practice dates through the summer!   There are plenty of dates and you don't have to attend every single one of them to get something out of the practices.  Plus, as we get closer to the fall, we'll be practicing dances on the program for the Victory Ball.  If you'd like to take part in any of these free, beginner-friendly practices, be sure to head over to the Events calendar and register for the date or dates you'd like to attend!

For those of you in Northern Virginia, we're pleased to announce that our spring picnic is to be held at the beautiful Colvin Run Mill park in Great Falls!  Join us on Sunday, June 3 for an afternoon of food, family, and fun.  Those who register and attend in period attire will be offered a tour of the working mill (which will be grinding grain the day of our visit) for free.  Period attire, however, is not required to attend the picnic and regular admission will apply for those who wish to attend in modern clothing and take a tour of the mill.  Be sure to register to let us know that you'll be attending by visiting the event listing here.

The other event that we've added is a group outing to see the Virginia Museum of Fine Art's new exhibition, Napoleon: Power and Splendor.  This exhibition features items from the Imperial Household shedding new light on how Napoleon's image was crafted.  Registration for this event is required and the museum has given us permission to attend in period attire if we so choose.  VMFA members can also register with the group at no charge provided that they submit their membership number at the time of their registration.  Join the group to see what promises to be a feast for an early 19th century enthusiast's eyes by visiting the event listing here.

It's been a while but we've at last found a new, spacious home for our Regency dance practices: St. John's Church in Portsmouth!  We've got our first five dates posted on the Events page, so make sure that you register to let us know that you'll be attending.

Our dance practices welcome those with little or no experience in English Country Dancing and will allow participants to familiarize themselves with early 19th century dance figures and several of the dances that the RSV does during demonstrations at various historic sites.  As we get nearer to the Victory Ball, we'll also include dances that will be on the program so that dancers will have an opportunity to become familiar with them before the big night.  There is no charge for these lessons and you don't require a partner to attend, either.  If you've ever wanted to get an idea of what Jane Austen danced, we'd love to have you join us!

We've added a couple of new events to our roster for 2018 and we hope that you'll be able to join us.  In April, we've been invited to two different historic sites to help bring the properties to life for visitors.  On April 21, Sanford, North Carolina's "House in the Horseshoe" site will be hosting an event dubbed "An Afternoon at Retreat" featuring a host of early 19th century activities.  The following Saturday, April 28, Preservation Virginia's Bacon's Castle has requested the RSV be present for a "garden party" event as they help wrap up Historic Garden Week.  Those in attendance will be demonstrating games, helping to serve visitors tea and cookies, and otherwise adding to the historic atmosphere.  Please visit the Events page to get more details and to register for each of these free events.

We have also updated our UK Group Trip page to reflect a new pricing schedule.  Rather than having multiple payments due throughout the year-and-a-half run-up to the trip, we've reached an agreement with the tour company to allow for the full payment to be due 8 weeks in advance of arrival.  Those wishing to go on the trip need only put down an initial deposit of £250 by May 31, 2018 to reserve your space and no other payments will be due until the final balance becomes payable on April 15, 2019.  For more information or to make your deposit, please be sure to visit our UK Group Trip page and register for the event to get updates directly via e-mail.

Registering for events just got a whole lot easier if you're an iPhone user!  We now have an app available which will allow current members to access the membership directory, edit your profile, see upcoming events, and register for outings quickly.  Visit the app store (or click on the link below) to download the Wild Apricot For Members app and login with the same e-mail and password that you use on the site.  It really is that simple!

Unfortunately, the app is currently only available for iOS users but the rumor is that an app for other platforms is in development.  Stay tuned!

The Regency Ladies' Retreat has a history of selling out quickly but this year it went even more quickly than anticipated!  Instead of the typical two months it takes to fill up, this year's retreat reached capacity in a mere TWELVE HOURS.

We're delighted at the enthusiastic response but if you didn't get your registration in before the event was filled, we encourage you to add your name to our waitlist.  Any spaces that open up will go first to those on the waitlist in the order in which they registered.  Waitlisted members don't have to pay anything until they are contacted about an open space.

Even if we won't have the pleasure of your company at the retreat, we hope that we'll see you at any of our other upcoming events!  Be sure to check out the calendar on our Events page!
