From time to time, the RSV does early 19th century dance demonstrations for various historical sites and events and we are currently seeking volunteers so that we can help out at a few upcoming events.  If you are available and willing to be one of our dancers for any of the following dates, please let us know by e-mailing us at info@varegency.org as soon as possible!

    • September 24, 2016 - 1812 Fair and Reenactment at Jefferson-Patterson Park, St. Leonard, MD - 10am
    • October 9, 2016 - Chesapeake Heritage Waterways Festival, Chesapeake, VA - 12pm - 3:30pm

We're disappointed to announce that the Francis Land House has decided to cancel their "Tea with the Lands" on June 19.  However, since we had volunteers ready to join us out there, we thought we'd take another stab at having a picnic at this lovely c. 1805 home!

If you're interested in joining us for a picnic that day, please register through the event listing.  We're asking folks to bring a period dish to pass and picnicking accoutrements for you party.  The RSV will provide drinks and games for the out of doors.  If there is enough interest, we could even get a discounted rate on tours of the house!  As ever, period attire is encouraged but not required.

We're looking for people willing to give of their time and their talents to help us support programming at several historical sites.  Period attire is required for these events but, in many cases, there are members with clothing that they are willing to lend.  (Just post a request on the Member Chatter forum or e-mail us at info@varegency.org.)

Please register for any events you are interested in assisting with as soon as possible so that we can plan accordingly!

    • June 18 - Halifax Revolutionary War Days - Halifax, NC - Volunteers needed to represent the early 19th century in one of the historic houses.
    • June 19 - Tea with the Lands - Virginia Beach, VA - Volunteers needed to act as hosts/hostesses and interact with visitors during a tea party and game of whist.  (No previous knowledge of whist required.)
    • July 4 - Independence Day at Poplar Forest - Forest, VA - Dancers are needed for demonstrations of early 19th century dance at Thomas Jefferson's retreat near Lynchburg, VA.

If you have any questions regarding any of these events, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@varegency.org.

Jane Austen's novel Lady Susan has been adapted for the big screen and we are anticipating with great pleasure the theatrical release of "Love and Friendship."

We are hoping to host a costumed rendezvous of Janeites at Criterion Cinemas at MovieLand in Richmond the Saturday after it is released there, May 28.  Stay tuned for further details and for the opportunity to assist us in recruiting more Regency-philes!

Interested in joining us?  Let us know by e-mailing us at info@varegency.org.

For those members and friends who are heading to AshLawn-Highland's Girl Scout Day on May 7 or the Louisville, Kentucky, Jane Austen Festival (July 15-17), please be aware that there are other events going on during those weekends in those areas that are making hotel reservations more difficult to come by.  We encourage you to make any necessary reservations as soon as possible to avoid not having a place to stay!

Would you be able to spare a day or two out of your week to help instill a love of history in young people?

Historic Hope Plantation (Windsor, NC) is hosting its Living History Days on Monday, March 21 and Thursday, March 24.  The RSV has often sent a contingent to participate.  In the past, we have spoken to the kids about clothing during the early 19th century, given dancing demonstrations, and taught games.

If you can assist with this program, please let us know as soon as possible by registering on the events page.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via e-mail at info@varegency.org.

The bulk of the events for 2016 have (at last!) been posted and registration is open for all but a few (pending additional information).  There will be some more added (we're waiting on date confirmations for the Victory Ball and are hoping to stick a "Buy/Sell/Trade" fair in there somewhere), so be sure to watch your e-mail for notices!  (Not a member?  Join our mailing list to keep up with us!)

Also, even if an event is free to attend, PLEASE REGISTER!  I cannot stress to you how much it assists those of us who are helping to organize these events--and it is to your benefit as it will let us know who to contact should we receive information that needs to be shared or have to cancel at the last minute.  Members, don't forget to log in before you register.  It will save you the hassle of filling out the forms as well as allow you to get access to member pricing where there is a discount (or advanced registration...*cough*Ladies Retreat*cough*).  As an added bonus, after you attend, you will have a nice little record in your profile of all the events that you attended! :)

Looking forward to spending 2016 enjoying the early 19th century with you!

We're thrilled to announce that another vendor has been added to our growing-list of "Member Friendly Merchants".

RSV member, Rebecca Burnham, is launching her new millinery which features both ready- and custom-made hats that aren't your run-of-the-mill toppers.  She is very kindly offering a 10% discount on her ready-made collection to RSV members.  (Don't see anything that floats your boat or you are looking for something in a different color?  Consider commissioning her to produce something more to your liking!)

"Shocking Bad Hats" has already acquired a number of happy customers within the RSV and we are so appreciative that members will have an extra incentive to support the business venture of one of their fellow members.   Click on the picture to visit the "Shocking Bad Hats" Facebook page to see some of the available offerings!

This is just a brief reminder that anyone wishing to run for one of the offices on the RSV board for the 2016-2017 year needs to get their name in by December 15, 2015!  Please submit your name and the position you wish to run for to info@varegency.org.  After that time, we will begin the balloting!

If you have any questions or wish to learn more about the various positions, don't hesitate to contact the RSV at info@varegency.org.
