About this event
Join us for a specialized tour of the Virginia State Capitol being created just for the RSV
Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
RSV Member Betsy Cassebeer has graciously volunteered not only to lead us but is creating a tour with an emphasis on the Regency period.
The Capitol of Virginia was designed in 1785 by Thomas Jefferson with help from Charles Louis Clerisseau while Jefferson was serving as U. S. Minister to France. The Virginia General Assembly occupied the Capitol in 1788 and members of the Virginia executive and judicial branches moved into the building in 1789. It is the first American State Capitol designed after the Revolutionary War and the first public building in the New World to be constructed in the form of a classical Roman temple.
Please meet outside the Capitol building no later than 1:45 PM. The tour starts promptly at 2:00 PM. This is a NON-COSTUME event. The event is open to EVERYONE! Feel free to bring friends!
Attendees can find parking close by. The nearest parking will be the Capitol Square Visitor Parking Deck:
