Help bring history to life at the inaugural Oktoberfest and History Faire at Salubria in Stevensburg, VA, taking place October 18, from 10AM - 4PM. We are looking for for enthusiastic dancers who have at least intermediate skill/experience and can come costumed. The period of dress is flexible, and can be anything from roughly 1775 - 1825. The dancing demonstration with audience participation will happen from 12 - 4, led by Mr. Steplively. There is the possibility of a bonus social dance for re-enactors after the event closes, based on interest.
There will be four 45-minute sessions split over the 12 - 4 p.m. time frame so participants can rest and explore the other aspects of the event. If there are enough volunteers, dancers will be rotated into the demonstrations so that more downtime is possible for everyone. The demonstration dances will be prompted, but participants should review instructions so they know what they are doing when they show up; no rehearsal is anticipated at this time. Interested parties should note that this is being performed outdoors in a breathtaking boxwood grove immediately outside the 1757 mansion - but is indeed on grass and such. There will be live musicians for the entirety of the dancing!
A small stipend ($25 - $50 per car) may be available for those who are driving long distances and would be aided by offsetting fuel costs. Carpooling is recommended, where possible.
Those who wish to sign on and/or have questions may contact Jeremy at jgershman@basicisp.net.

Emma Woodhouse is clever, educated, and energetic… and about to go mad with idleness. In a time when respectable ladies are expected to sit quietly at home, Emma desperately longs for projects—and prides herself on matchmaking, much to the chagrin of her friend Mr. Knightley. But where Emma’s considerable energies focus, screwball comedy follows! A fresh and funny new take on a treasured classic.
Directed by Tom Quaintance. October 22 - November 9, 2025.
