While reading the "assigned" section is, of course, encouraged to enhance the discussion, if you don't have an opportunity to complete the reading, you are still most welcome to listen in.

This session will feature:  A Slave in the White House: Paul Jennings and the Madisons by Elizabeth Dowling Taylor.

Discussion Schedule

  • March 30: Chapters 1-4
  • April 20: Chapters 5-Appendix A

In his 75 years, Paul Jennings journeyed from slavery to emancipation, spending much of his life enslaved to James and Dolley Madison.  Join us as we seek to learn more about the life, hardships, and achievements of this fascinating man.
